Algie Packer is Essex’s most notorious gangster and he is finally being released from prison after seven long years inside. Patiently waiting for the day when he can get out and collect his loot – a cool amount of just over £3.5million in untraceable notes.
The story follows the most dysfunctional, but loveable family in Essex, The Packers. They are awating the return of Algie from prison. They know that Algie will be keen to collect what is rightfully his; so are desperately trying to cover their tracks before he returns from “the nick”.
Starring the fantastic and comical genius of Lee Evans who plays Darnley the local village idiot of the crime world. Emmie his mother – The matriarch of the family who is like a Rottweiler with a hairdo who is played by the fabulous Sheila Hancock. Barking in Essex is a hilarious comedy by the brilliant Clive Exton – well known and loved writer of Jeeves and Wooster and 10 Rillington Place. Barking in Essex is directed by Harry Buxton (The Dumb Waiter, The Leisure Society).
